Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate in Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome

An Observational Study to Improve the Accuracy of Current Diagnostic Tools for Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome

Study Overview

The goal of this study is to begin to develop and validate a GFR estimating equation for individuals with nephrotic syndrome. As part of this study the children will receive an accurate measure of their glomerular filtration rate that will be provided to their treating physician. This can then be used to estimate their degree of chronic kidney disease.

Eligibility Criteria

You can participate in this study if you:
(1) Are age 1 to 17 years
(2) Have an estimated GFR of >40mL/min/1.73
(3) Have active nephrotic syndrome
(4) Have a urine protein/creatinine > 2 or urinalysis ≥ 2 + protein
(5) Have edema or serum albumin < 3 g/dL

You cannot participate in this study if you:
(1) Are currently taking a medication that influences creatinine, such as Bactrim or Cimetidine
(2) Have had a kidney transplant
(3) Are allergic to iohexol
